Pivot into becoming a birth photographer today:
As a photographer especially a birth photographer it’s important that we act as a permanent eye. We get to capture these incredible moments and all the in between moments that mom/dad don’t get to really see. As soon as I walk into a room I’m immediately looking at the little details I can add to make a gallery so much more wholesome. The goal is to tell a story and fill in the gaps that not everyone notices. Here is my 7 photo-shot list I always try to capture during births.
- room number photo, I know this may seem silly but I know I’d love to remember (I delivered my baby in room number 3)
- Dry erase board with baby’s name, nurse name, and sweet messages the nurse writes
- Contract/heart beat monitor
- One last picture of mom and dad before baby arrives( if mom is okay and doing well in between contractions)
- Dad/birth partner cutting cord
- First latch/skin to skin with mom and dad
- Baby measurements
One of the main key points to being a good birth photographer is understanding that we are storytellers. Being able to capture raw moments for our clients is what’s going to allow them to feel that instant connection when they are looking back at their session.
